Fun little free app… you take a picture, point out where the eyes are, and then shake your iPod to get various image results. Moderately fun. 🙂

Question of the day: Is there an iPod Touch application that reminds you to bring books back to the library?
I have a chronic problem with not bringing books back to the library and having to pay fines – is there an iPod application that keeps track of your books and reminds you to bring them back? Thanks!

Answer by nil8_360
If there is a calendar feature just create a new event and have an alarm set 3 days before the books are due back, and again the day before the books are due back.

Macro Coffee Beans   16 comments

Check out these laptop cooler images:

Macro Coffee Beans

I roast my own coffee beans and love coffee and used to shoot microstock (and may get back to it) so I’ve taken a LOT of pictures of coffee beans. Almost all were with nice soft light and a white background if there was one.

I wanted to do the opposite so I did a ‘photo shoot’ of a bean in the foreground and three in the background. Then I kept adding beans. I kept having one bean as the focus. I spontaneously thought of putting one bean on top of a layer of beans. This was nice because creativity isn’t my strength.

I used a larger aperture for this one to make it stand out, and it looks good, but I wish I would have used a smaller one. At this close it still would have been the only thing in focus and the whole bean might have been sharp.

I used an old White Lightning 600 with originally with a honeycomb grid spot for hard light and to keep it from spilling and bouncing off other things, and tried some with an umbrella. I happened to like the umbrella picture only because I used a little smaller aperture on this frame and liked the arrangement the best although I should have turned the bean toward the camera more. (The setup picture shows the grid spot.)

This is the first time I tethered the camera to a laptop which was super cool. My bad back was killing me so I didn’t take as much time as I should have to ponder each shot. There are things I don’t like about each ‘setup’ I did.

Next time I will try a silver umbrella kept close to the light source. I think that would work the best.

-Canon XSi tethered using EOS Utility
-Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro
-Hotshoe PC adapter didn’t work so I used on camera flash to fire White Lighting via slave
-White Lightning 600 with shoot through umbrella
-Bogen (now Manfrotto) tripod broken in two places–they aren’t always the best

Question from a reader:
Question of the day: How to make custom external laptop cooler?
My laptop gets overheated. I wanna make an external laptop cooler using fans and the cooler shall get its energy via USB from the laptop. Does anyone know how to do that?
(How many fans I may use, how to connect the fans to the USB etc.)
I want to make one on my own, because nothing on the market quite answers my needs. So I would like to place the fans just as I need them, so please only answers with directions how to build one, p.s.: thanks you guys, but already know the ones on the market!

Question of the day: viability of writing a cydia app for ipad video input?
I would personally really like to have simple video input for my ipad (its mounted on my dash and I want a backup camera). I’m considering attempting to write my own app to achieve this, however, I do have limited objective c knowledge at the moment.
Can someone enlighten me as to the possibility of getting access to the dock connector and interpreting the video signal? I’d like to avoid wasting my time if there’s a reason this is impossible…

thanks!

Answer by Colanth
Avoid wasting your time. I doubt that you can even feed a video signal into the iPad.

A few nice laptop sleeve images I found:

This is the first time I’ve used a sewing machine, and I’m pretty proud of the result! Still need to sew on some velcro and the patches, but otherwise, I have myself an awesome new laptop sleeve

Question of the day: Where to find a laptop sleeve?
Pretty self explanatory but basically just looking for a place where I can buy a nice laptop sleeve for not a whole lot of money. I looked at Staples the other day and they were all +, but I know there are some nice ones out there for cheaper. For instance my friend just bought a nice one from Linens and Things for only , but I don’t want to drive an hour a way just for a laptop sleeve (plus with my gas millage I’d probably end up costing myself money)

Any suggestions?

most of these apps I use every day, albeit so far. Since there are no easy way to organize Apps until iPhone OS 4, I have all of my image-altering apps on a different screen, all of my weather apps on a different screen, etc.

NetNewsWire and Twitterific just didn’t make the cut, they are on the second page, along with Netflix, Reuters, SketchBook, and others.

Questions and Answers:
Question of the day: Will there will be a hand scanner security app for the iPad?
not a fake one, but a REAL genuine hand scanner to unlock the iPad?

Best answer:

Answer by A Name Goes Right Here
How could that be possible? The iPad senses touch, but it’s not nearly sensitive enough to read hand patterns and fingerprints. There are no optical sensors in the screen to scan it. The best it could do is read the size of the hand, which probably isn’t going to be good enough for any kind of security.

Not possible. Not without an app and an external piece of add-on hardware.

Question of the day: What is the name of this ipod application for putting your documents on your ipod?
I heard that there was an ipod application that you could buy where you could have your documents from your computer put onto your ipod video. What is the name of this application? I need this for school.

Best answer:

Answer by Michael
You don’t require an application.
Just follow these steps:
1. Plug in your iPod.
2. Click on your iPod’s little menu in iTunes.
3. Look for a small check box that says, “Enable disk use” or something to the effect of that.
4. Click and apply.

This should work. Test it at home.
If you have a Macintosh formatted iPod, it will only act like a USB Drive on Macs.
If you have a Windows formatted iPod, you should be fine.
